Death

Death

Death is the most feared card in the deck, and also the most misunderstood. It rarely means physical death. It means *transformation*. A caterpillar must "die" to become a butterfly. A snake must shed its skin to grow. Death is the necessary ending that makes a new beginning possible.

This card appears when something in your life has reached its expiration date. A job, a relationship, a belief system, a version of yourself. You probably know what it is. You've been dragging its corpse around for a while. Death asks you to bury it.

It is a card of liberation. While the process of letting go is painful, the other side is freedom. The sun is rising in the background of the card. The darkness is just the transition. Don't fear the reaper; he is just the gardener pruning the dead branches so you can bloom again.

I. Temporal Meanings

Past Position

You have gone through a major transition or loss. A chapter closed definitively, forcing you to reinvent yourself.

Present Position

Something is ending. Do not resist it. Let it go. The sooner you accept the end, the sooner the new beginning can start.

Future Position

Transformation is inevitable. You are heading towards a rebirth. The old you is fading away to make space for a more authentic version.

II. Life Contexts

Career

A job or career path is ending. It might be a layoff or a realization that you've outgrown your role. Pivot. Reinvent yourself.

Love

A relationship may end or undergo a radical transformation. If it survives, it will be completely different. Let go of old patterns.

Health

Detox and elimination. Let go of unhealthy habits. A significant change in your physical state or lifestyle is indicated.
